Intravitreal dexamethasone implant migration into the anterior chamber: A multicenter study from the Pan-American Collaborative Retina Study Group
Retina Apr 24, 2020
Gonçalves MB, Alves BDQ, Moura R, et al. - In this multicenter, retrospective, observational chart review, researchers identified the prevalence and risk factors for intravitreal dexamethasone implant migration into the anterior chamber in eyes with macular edema. Participants in the study were patients with macular edema who had been treated with at least one intravitreal dexamethasone injection. According to results, the prevalence of implant migration in 468 patients, taking into account the number of injections, was 1.6%, with significant links between implant migration and cataract surgery and intraocular lens status and a trend toward statistical significance with vitrectomy. Risk factors have been the history of cataract surgery or vitrectomy and aphakia. Rapid removal is advised when anterior migration occurs, particularly if corneal edema is present.
