Intravenous acetaminophen before pelvic organ prolapse repair: A randomized controlled trial
Obstetrics and Gynecology Mar 01, 2019
Turner LC, et al. - Preoperative intravenous (IV) acetaminophen was compared with placebo regarding the effects on pain scores after pelvic organ prolapse surgery. Women undergoing prolapse surgery were randomized to IV acetaminophen (1,000 mg) or preoperative saline stratified by surgical route (laparoscopic or vaginal) in this double-blind placebo-controlled multicenter trial. The patients showed no reduction in pain scores or opioid use and no effect on their satisfaction or quality of life (QOL) in correlation to recieving preoperative IV acetaminophen. Hence this study does not support the routine use of preemptive IV acetaminophen alone.
