Intraoperative local infiltration with ropivacaine 0.5% in women undergoing vaginal hysterectomy and pelvic floor repair: Randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology May 08, 2019
Athanasiou S, et al. - In this double-blind randomized 1:1 placebo-controlled trial, researchers examined if infiltration with ropivacaine 0.5% could effectively control postoperative pain in 59 women undergoing vaginal hysterectomy (VH) and pelvic floor repair for prolapse stage > II. Ropivacaine infiltration vs placebo led to lower pain intensity at 2 and 4 h postoperatively at rest and during cough. In addition, they noted a significant reduction in morphine consumption in these patients following local infiltration with ropivacaine 0.5%.
