Intralesional pentoxifylline, triamcinolone acetonide and their combination for treatment of keloid scars
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Jun 23, 2021
Serag-Eldin YMA, Mahmoud WH, Gamea MM, et al. - In the present study, the researchers tested the safety and effectiveness of intralesional pentoxifyllin (PTX) vs intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (TAC) and their combination for the treatment of keloids. Thirty keloid patients were divided into three equal groups and treated by intralesional injection of TAC, PTX, or their combination (admixed in 1:1 ratio). When used alone, intralesional PTX injection is a potentially useful, safe, and well-tolerated therapeutic tool for keloids, but it has lower efficacy than intralesional TAC. Combining PTX and TAC impairs keloid treatment results significantly and reduces the risk of TAC-induced side effects.
