Intimate partner violence during pregnancy and adverse birth outcomes: A case-control study
Reproductive Health Feb 28, 2019
Berhanie E, et al. - Researchers investigated how intimate partner violence during pregnancy is associated with adverse birth outcomes. In four zonal hospitals of Tigray region, they undertook a hospital-based unmatched case control study including a total of 954 study participants (318 cases and 636 controls). Among these, intimate partner violence was reported in 389 (40.8%) during their index pregnancy period. A higher risk of preterm birth and low birth weight was evident among pregnant women exposed to more than one type of intimate partner violence and physical violence during pregnancy. Hence they recommend including issues of violence against women while making efforts addressing maternal and newborn health need.
