Internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy (i-CBT) for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD): Systematic review and meta-analysis
Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica Aug 02, 2019
Lewis C, Roberts N, Simon N, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis involving 720 candidates, researchers ascertained if, for those who meet diagnostic criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (i-CBT) is an effective treatment. According to findings, there was no proof that PTSD symptoms differed between i-CBT and posttreatment internet-based non-CBT. There was evidence of a larger treatment effect from trauma-focused i-CBT than i-CBT without a trauma-focus, as well as evidence that by providing guidance, the treatment effect was increased. While the review found some beneficial effects of i-CBT on posttreatment PTSD, the quality of the evidence was very low and there was insufficient evidence to support the maintenance of improvement after 3 to 6 months of follow-up due to the small number of included trials.
