Internal venous anomalies in patients with a genital venous malformation
Pediatric Dermatology Dec 22, 2017
Peterman CM, et al. - Experts strived to discern the frequency of internal vascular anomalies in patients with an isolated genital venous malformation. The intention was to gauge the utility of screening for internal findings. Internal venous anomalies were reported in approximately half of the patients with a focal genital venous malformation. Physicians were advised to suspect urogenital or gastrointestinal venous malformations in patients with a focal genital venous malformation, particularly if they developed hematuria, hematochezia or rectorrhagia. In addition, the occurrence of prominent mesenteric venous trunk anomalies could be noted. Owing to the requirement of surgical intervention, early detection was found to be vital. Patients with a focal genital venous malformation were recommended to undergo an abdominal and pelvic ultrasound to assess for internal venous anomalies.
