Influence of pigment epithelial detachment on visual acuity in neovascular age-related macular degeneration
Survey of Ophthalmology Sep 11, 2020
Cheong KX, et al. - Researchers conducted a comprehensive literature review to assess the association of pigment epithelial detachment (PED) with visual acuity in neovascular age-related macular degeneration. A PED's presence or persistence may still be compatible with relatively good visual acuity. Findings revealed that there is no strong evidence that the presence of a PED or aspects of its morphology affects visual acuity significantly. The presence of a PED may predict the need for more regular therapy. More well-designed studies with standardized PED definitions and classifications are needed to evaluate the relationship between PED and visual acuity.
