Influence of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy on gastroesophageal reflux disease in children
The Journal of Pediatrics Apr 28, 2018
Aumar M, et al. - Researchers attempted to scrutinize the presence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) long-term follow-up after percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG). They also evaluated the factors related to the occurrence or aggravation of GERD after PEG placement. Eligible candidates included every child who underwent PEG from 1990 to 2003 in the center. Data reported that GERD appeared in 11% of patients after PEG placement and was aggravated in 25% of patients with preexisting GERD. It was deduced that GERD predominantly remained clinically controlled after PEG placement. This did not justify routine antireflux surgery at the time of PEG placement.
