Influence of glaucoma surgery on visual function: A clinical cohort study and meta-analysis
Acta Ophthalmologica Oct 10, 2018
Montolio FGJ, et al. - Researchers investigated the cost (loss of visual function associated with the procedure) and benefit (long-term preservation of the visual field) of glaucoma surgery via analyzing 100 patients who underwent glaucoma surgery (Baerveldt glaucoma implant [BGI], n = 61; trabeculectomy [TE], n = 39). Outcomes suggest a significant reduction in glaucoma progression in correlation to undergoing glaucoma surgery. On average, after approximately 1.5 years, the benefit of glaucoma surgery surpasses the cost.
