Infection-related acute care events among patients with glomerular disease
Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology Dec 10, 2020
Glenn DA, Henderson CD, O’Shaughnessy M, et al. - Among participants of a prospective, multicenter, cohort study [CureGN: Cure Glomerulonephropathy Network], researchers investigated the incidence of, as well as risk factors for, infection-related acute care events. In CureGN, children and adults with biopsy sample–proven minimal change disease, FSGS, membranous nephropathy, or IgA nephropathy/vasculitis were involved. There were 1,741 participants (43% female, 41% <18 years, 68% White), of those, 163 (9%) encountered infection-related acute care events during a median observation span of 17 months. In pediatric and adult participants, unadjusted incidence rates of infection-related acute care events were estimated to be 13.2 and 6.2 events per 100 person-years, respectively. Findings showed that infection-related acute care events were commonly experienced by CureGN participants and were identified to be related to younger age, corticosteroid exposure, and hypoalbuminemia with proteinuria.
