Independent and joint associations of grip strength and adiposity with all-cause and cardiovascular disease mortality in 403,199 adults: The UK Biobank study

American Journal of Clinical Nutrition Sep 18, 2017

Kim Y, et al. - This study assessed the links between grip strength (GS), adiposity, and mortality. Researchers identified lower grip strength and excess adiposity as independent predictors of higher mortality risk. They observed that greater GS reduced, although not completely, higher mortality risk related to excess adiposity. Interventions and policies should focus on improving the muscular strength of the population regardless of their degree of adiposity.
