Increasing rates of arthroplasty for psoriatic arthritis in the United Kingdom between 1995 and 2010
Arthritis Care & Research Oct 23, 2019
Lewinson RT, Vallerand IA, LaMothe JM, et al. - Given the rarity of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and arthroplasty literature, researchers sought to utilize The Health Improvement Network (THIN), a large general practice medical records database in the UK, to evaluate rates of primary total arthroplasty among patients with PsA and the general population between the years 1995 and 2010. Between 1995 and 2010, 5,619 individuals with incident PsA and 5,090,814 eligible individuals from the general population were identified. A total of 187 primary total arthroplasties were documented in PsA patients, and 80,163 primary total arthroplasties were documented in the general population. Both the general population and PsA patients reported increased rates of the first arthroplasty between 1995 and 2010, although the overall incidence rate for those with PsA was significantly higher.
