Increased serum PCSK9, a potential biomarker to screen for periodontitis, and decreased total bilirubin associated with probing depth in a Japanese community survey
Journal of Periodontal Research Jun 26, 2018
Tabeta K, et al. - In a Japanese cross-sectional community survey, researchers gauged potential serum biomarkers of periodontitis that were associated with atherosclerotic vascular disease (ASVD) and chronic periodontitis. Findings suggested an association of the concentrations of serum PCSK9 and TBIL with periodontal parameters. Also, for diagnosing chronic periodontitis, PCSK9 could be a candidate biomarker. Experts noted a probability of the biomarker to have potential to evaluate the risk for periodontitis to cause ASVD.
