Increased serum exosomal miR-134 expression in the acute ischemic stroke patients
BMC Neurology Dec 07, 2018
Zhou J, et al. - Since exosomal miRNAs have emerged as biomarkers and therapeutic targets for various diseases, the function of exosomal miRNAs in stroke has been determined by researchers. For this investigation, they collected blood samples from acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients and normal controls. They observed that the expression of exosomal miR-134 was significantly increased in AIS patients. It was noted that the enhanced abundance of the exosomal miR-134 was significantly linked to the poor prognosis of AIS. The exosomal miR-134 was strongly correlated with serum interleukin 6 (IL-6) and plasma-high-sensitivity C relative protein (hs-CRP) expression. The exosomal miR-134 is a potential new biomarker for stroke diagnosis and prognosis.
