Increased risk of incident chronic medical conditions in infertile women: Analysis of US claims data
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Mar 16, 2019
Murugappan G, et al. - In this retrospective cohort analysis, researchers identified a total of 64,345 infertile women by infertility diagnosis, testing, or treatment and compared these with 3,128,345 noninfertile patients seeking routine gynecologic care to assess whether female infertility is associated with the risk of incident chronic disease. Observations revealed that despite a low absolute risk of chronic disease, infertility is associated with higher likelihood to develop diabetes, renal disease, liver disease, cerebrovascular disease, ischemic heart disease, other heart diseases, and drug abuse compared with a group of noninfertile women.
