Increased risk of cardiovascular comorbidities in hidradenitis suppurativa: A nationwide, population-based, cohort study in Taiwan
The Journal of Dermatology Aug 10, 2019
Hung CT, et al. - Via data analysis from the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan, researchers clarified the cardiovascular disease risk factors and the occurrence of coronary artery disease (CAD) and cerebral infarction among patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). They used Cox proportional hazards analysis to determine the risk of incident hypertension (HTN), diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, CAD and cerebral infarction in patients with HS after adjusting for confounding factors. During the 10-year follow-up period, 478 patients with newly diagnosed HS and 1,912 patients in the control cohort were identified. Overall, the investigators noted a higher risk of dyslipidemia, HTN, diabetes mellitus, and CAD in patients with HS.
