Incident spine surgery in patients with ankylosing spondylitis: A secondary cohort analysis of a nationwide, population-based health claims database

Lu MC, et al. - Experts evaluated the risk of the need for spine surgery, including cervical and lumbar spine surgeries in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS), compared with those without the disease. They conducted a secondary data analysis using population-based claims data from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database. A significantly higher risk of needing any spine surgery, cervical spine surgery, and lumbar spine surgery was seen in the patients with AS, particularly those in their 20s and 30s vs patients without AS.
