Incidence, risk factors, and impact of clostridium difficile colitis after spine surgery: An analysis of a national database
Spine Jun 06, 2018
Bovonratwet P, et al. - Experts used a large national database with post-hospitalization follow-up data (National Surgical Quality Improvement Program) to ascertain the incidence, risk factors, timing, and clinical impact of Clostridium difficile colitis in spine surgery patients. Out of the patients undergoing spine surgery C. difficile was seen in 0.11% of patients. Most of these cases happened after discharge and in patients without prior infection diagnoses. Findings revealed an association of C. difficile colitis development with greater length of stay and increased 30-day readmission.
