Incidence of ventricular arrhythmias and 1‐year predictors of mortality in patients treated with implantable cardioverter‐defibrillator undergoing generator replacement
Journal of the American Heart Association Feb 03, 2021
Demarchi A, Cornara S, Sanzo A, et al. - Researchers examined ventricular arrhythmias incidence as well as the overall prognosis of patients with and without persistent implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) indication receiving generator replacement (GR). They also assessed predictors of 1‐year death. This analysis involved 371 patients (82% men, 40% with ischemic heart disease) with structural heart disease implanted with primary prevention ICD receiving GR. A low incidence of appropriate ICD therapies post-GR was found in patients without persistent ICD indication at the time of GR. A significantly lower 1‐year mortality was experienced by patients without persistent ICD indication. The identified significant predictors of 1‐year mortality were: persistent ICD indication, atrial fibrillation, advanced chronic renal disease, and age > 80. These data highlight the requirement of conducting a comprehensive clinical re-assessment of ICD patients at the time of GR.
