Incidence of infective endocarditis in patients considered at moderate risk
European Heart Journal Oct 25, 2018
Østergaard L, et al. - Researchers used Danish nationwide registries to evaluate the risk of infective endocarditis (IE) in patients with aortic and mitral valve disorders, a cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED), or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). They also performed comparisons between these patient groups and control participants from the background population using risk-set matching, as well as a high-risk population (prosthetic heart valve). According to findings, patients with a heart valve disorder, a CIED, and HCM were found to have a higher risk of IE compared with the background population, whereas, a lower associated risk of IE was observed when compared with high-risk patients.
