Incidence, factors, and clinical significance of cholesterol crystals in coronary plaque: An optical coherence tomography study
Atherosclerosis Feb 21, 2019
Fujiyoshi K, et al. - Investigators analyzed 340 individuals to explore the incidence, factors, and clinical consequence of cholesterol crystal (CC) in coronary plaque. They observed no significant variation in baseline clinical characteristics between individuals with and without CC except for eicosapentaenoic acid/arachidonic acid ratio and hemoglobin A1c levels. Among individuals with vs without CC, the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and non-target vessel revascularization was greater at 1-year, and the presence of CC was significantly correlated with a greater rate of 1-year MACE.
