Incidence and risk factors for venous thromboembolism following hip arthroscopy: A population-based study
Arthroscopy Aug 12, 2019
Khazi ZM, et al. - Researchers investigated the incidence of symptomatic venous thromboembolism (VTE) after hip arthroscopy (HA) using the Humana administrative claims database while considering several patient demographic factors. They included 9,477 patients who underwent HA procedures over the study period (2007-2017) using relevant Current Procedural Terminology and International Classification of Diseases Ninth and Tenth Revision codes. Outcomes revealed a low incidence of symptomatic postoperative VTE in patients undergoing HA. Independent risk factors for VTE after HA were age ≥ 45, obesity, tobacco use, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
