Incidence and risk factors for blindness in adults with diabetes: The Israeli National Diabetes Registry (INDR)
American Journal of Ophthalmology Dec 25, 2018
Lutski M, et al. - Investigators estimated cases aged ≥18 years to evaluate the risk factors linked to diabetic retinopathy (DR), age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), glaucoma and cataract-related blindness, to compare blindness incidence rates of candidates with/without diabetes and the 3-year incidence of blindness among diabetes cases. They noted poor metabolic control, insulin treatment, longer diabetes duration, and chronic kidney disease were correlated with DR-related blindness with the 3-year incidence rates of 31.0 and 8.4 per 10,000 for overall and DR-related blindness, respectively. An association of low socioeconomic status (SES) was also observed with both cataract and DR-related blindness.
