Incidence and associated predictors of adverse pregnancy outcomes of maternal syphilis in China, 2016–19: A cox regression analysis
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Apr 14, 2021
Li Z, Wang Q, Qiao Y, et al. - Via performing Cox regression analysis, researchers sought to determine the incidence and linked predictors of adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) among pregnant women infected with syphilis. From China’s Information System of Prevention of Mother‐to‐Child Transmission of Syphilis Management, they assessed pregnant women who were tested for and diagnosed with syphilis during the index pregnancy and delivered at a gestational age ≥ 28 weeks. Data regarding syphilis treatment were available from 83.86% of diagnosed women. Per findings, huge progress has been made in China over the last decades in the prevention of mother‐to‐child transmission of syphilis, however, the incidence of APOs remains high among pregnant women infected with syphilis. Further improvement in access to early detection and standardised treatment of infected women is necessary to lower the risk of APOs.
