In utero exposure to antibiotics and risk of congenital malformations: A population-based study
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jul 04, 2019
Damkier P, et al. - Researchers conducted a cohort study comprising all singleton liveborn children in Denmark in order to determine the risk of congenital malformations following the first trimester in utero exposure to 10 commonly prescribed antibiotics. They merged validated and comprehensive population-wide Danish health-care and civic registries to combine data on pregnancy, prescription drugs purchases during first trimester and congenital malformations. Analysis suggests, with a high degree of precision, no heightened risk of congenital malformations following first-trimester exposure to 10 regularly prescribed systemic antibiotics.
