Improving oral health in migrant and underserved populations: Evaluation of an interactive, community-based oral health education program in Washington state
BMC Oral Health Feb 20, 2019
Ponce-Gonzalez I, et al. - In this study, the authors estimated 311 candidates to assess the influence of the education program on knowledge of people concerning oral health practices using a paper and pencil survey held in 2017 throughout Washington State. They noted improvement in the following questions: the consequences of mouth infection, factors inducing oral health issues, and if children in low-income families experience more tooth decay. They found a statistically significant increase in knowledge for all of the pre/post survey questions. They suggested an interactive, lay-led oral health education program as an efficient system to increase oral health knowledge among migrants.
