Impact of stroke on affective well-being: Findings from a large longitudinal nationally representative study
Aging and Mental Health Oct 11, 2019
Buczak-Stec E, et al. - Researchers examined the influence of stroke incidence on affective well-being (positive affect and negative affect) and determined whether general self-efficacy moderates such a relationship via using longitudinal data from 2008, 2011 and 2014 from a population-based sample of community-residing individuals ≥ 40 years in Germany (n = 9,659 in regression analysis). As per fixed effects regressions, positive affect declined in the total sample and in both genders in correlation with the incidence of stroke. As this association was moderated by the general self-efficacy, they suggest enhancing self-efficacy and prioritizing coping strategies as beneficial among stroke survivals.
