Impact of metabolic syndrome on patient outcomes of supination-external rotation ankle fracture
Injury Jun 06, 2019
Park YH, et al. - Researchers designed a retrospective matched case-control study comparing patients with and without metabolic syndrome regarding outcomes of surgical treatment of supination-external rotation ankle fractures. At final follow-up, 49 patients with supination-external rotation ankle fracture and metabolic syndrome and 49 controls without metabolic syndrome were assessed for Olerud-Molander Ankle Score, Visual Analog Scale, Kellgren and Lawrence scale, and complications. Outcomes revealed the risk for worse clinical outcomes for patients with metabolic syndrome than patients without metabolic syndrome after surgical treatment of ankle fractures. Findings emphasize treating metabolic syndrome together with surgical treatment of ankle fractures.
