Impact of lymph node dissection at the time of radical nephrectomy with tumor thrombectomy on oncological outcomes: Results from the International Renal Cell Carcinoma-Venous Thrombus Consortium (IRCC-VTC)
Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations Nov 15, 2017
Tilki D, et al. - The upshot of lymph node dissection (LND) was inspected in this trial, at the time of nephrectomy and tumor thrombectomy on oncological outcomes in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and tumor thrombus. It was reported that the number of positive nodes harvested during LND and LN density served as strong prognostic indicators of cancer-specific survival (CSS). On the other hand, the number of removed LNs did not exert a notable impact on CSS. A considerably high rate of pN1 patients was discovered among clinically node-negative patients. LND in these patients indicated a survival benefit. Only, a randomized trial could determine the absolute advantage of LND in this scenario.
