Impact of family history on prognosis of patients with sporadic colorectal cancer
Annals of Surgical Oncology Mar 08, 2019
Lee SY, et al. - Given the association of family history (FH) of colorectal cancer (CRC) with increased risk for development of CRC, researchers examined the prognostic value of FH of CRC for the recurrence and survival of patients with sporadic CRC. From two tertiary referral hospitals in Korea, they examined the records of 2,960 CRC patients who underwent surgical resection between May 2007 and September 2013 and identified 163 (5.5%) who had first-degree relatives with CRC. Patients with sporadic CRC with FHs of CRC exhibit better overall survival (OS), but comparable cancer recurrence, as those who had no FH of CRC. Microsatellite status did not alter the effect of FH of CRC on OS.
