Yan Y, Zhang H, Jiang C, et al. - Given the correlation of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection with multiple types of cancer, researchers assessed its role in bladder cancer. They analyzed frozen tissue samples obtained from 146 patients (aged 32 to 89 years-old; 83.56% male) with bladder cancer pathological diagnosis. Overall, an HPV infection rate of 28.77% (37.5% in female and 27% in male) was observed, with 11.90% HPV integration events. Findings suggest a possible causative role of HPV infection both in men and women with bladder cancer. HPV18 was the most prevalent genotype, followed by HPV 33, 16 and 39 genotypes, with HPV16 being more prevalent in females.  .
