Aging and Mental Health May 04, 2019
Mahieu L, et al. - Researchers investigated the views of community-dwelling LGBT adults regarding sexuality and sexual expression in residential aged care (RAC), as reported in empirical studies. In addition, they examined how their sexuality should be addressed in RAC. Analyzing 18 identified articles, they identified clear perceptions regarding how sexuality and sexual expression is or should be managed in RAC among LGBT people. They identified the general increase in acceptance of sexual minorities. However, many community-dwelling LGBT people believe that due to their sexual orientation or gender identity older LGBT residents are discriminated. They identified considering these opinions for improving the accessibility of RAC to LGBT people and to ensure the quality of the provided care.
