Hospital readmissions among patients with skin disease: A retrospective cohort study
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Aug 25, 2018
Arnold JD, et al. - Authors conducted a retrospective cohort study of dermatology hospitalizations by using the 2014 Nationwide Readmissions Database to evaluate the frequency and demographics of readmissions for skin disease. For skin disease, significant health care and demographic disparities in readmissions are noted. Public insurance with Medicaid or Medicare, residence in a low-income community, an increased number of chronic conditions, and a large hospital were the predictors of readmission. In 2014, readmissions following dermatologic hospitalizations cost $1.05 billion to the American health care system. After hospitalizations for cutaneous lymphomas, connective tissue disorders, and cutaneous congenital abnormalities, readmission was most common.
