Hospital frailty risk score outperforms current risk stratification models in primary total hip and knee arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Dec 10, 2020
Meyer M, Parik L, Greimel F, et al. - The current study was conducted to compare the predictive power of these models in total hip and knee replacement. Between 2011 and 2019, researchers conducted a retrospective analysis including a total of 8,250 individuals who had undergone total joint replacement, Charlson Comorbidity Index, Elixshauser Comorbidity Method, modified Frailty Index, and Hospital Frailty Risk Score (HFRS) were estimated for each patient. They applied multivariate logistic regression models to evaluate the association between risk stratification models, demographic factors, and postoperative adverse events. In the context of total joint replacement, the HFRS is superior to current risk stratification models. The data exhibited that health care providers can identify at-risk patients without additional effort or expense, as the HRFS derives from routinely collected administrative data.
