Hospice utilization in advanced cervical malignancies: An analysis of the National Inpatient Sample
Gynecologic Oncology Mar 19, 2019
Sheu J, et al. - A total of 2,073 patients were studied to examine the factors that most strongly impact end-of-life care modalities in those with cervical cancer. They found a significant impact of age, hospital region, length of hospitalization, Elixhauser comorbidity index score, and urban vs rural location on outlook in univariate analysis. Higher rates of in-hospital death were seen in patient categories Asian/Pacific Islander, hospitalizations lasting 0–3 days, and admissions in rural areas vs the reference groups. Lower odds ratios of inpatient mortality were observed in subjects of age 18–45 years and among those treated in the South and West.
