Home visit intervention promotes lifestyle changes: Results of an RCT in Mexican Americans
American Journal of Preventive Medicine Oct 04, 2019
Vidoni ML, et al. - Whether a community health worker (CHW)-delivered intervention, Tu Salud ¡Si Cuenta! (Your Health Matters!) at Home Intervention, is effective for promoting physical activity among Mexican Americans was investigated. Researchers randomly allocated eligible adults to intervention (n = 250) or standard care (n = 250). The intervention group received education, motivation, and support for lifestyle alterations, during 6 monthly CHW visits. In the standard care group, the participants were potentially exposed to a community-wide health promotion campaign. The participants exposed to a CHW intervention exhibited increases in physical activity, this was also seen in those with obesity. It also suggests that the removal of CHW contact tapers the influence at 12 months.
