HLA-B27 prevalence in axial spondyloarthritis patients and in blood donors in a Lebanese population: Results from a nationwide study
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Feb 11, 2019
Ziade N, et al. - Authors analyzed 247 individuals to estimate the prevalence of human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-B27 in axial spondyloarthritis cases (axSpA) as compared to blood donors (BD) in Lebanon, to recognize the clinical and radiological findings linked to HLA-B27 and also to estimate the proportion of subjects fulfilling the clinical arm of the Assessment of the Spondyloarthritis International Association (ASAS) criteria. They noted 3.8% of prevalence of HLA-B27 in BD and 41.1% in axSpA. About 39.7% of the axSpA candidates fulfilled the clinical arm of the ASAS classification criteria. A positive association of HLA-B27 with a family history of SpA and psoriasis was also noticed.
