Histopathological observations in COVID-19: A systematic review
Journal of Clinical Pathology Jan 22, 2021
Deshmukh V, Motwani R, Kumar A, et al. - The latest histopathological changes in different organs seen after autopsy of COVID-19 cases are reviewed and summarized in this study. Researchers performed vast review of the articles in the search engines including PubMed, Medline (EBSCO & Ovid), Google Scholar, Science Direct, Scopus and Bio-Medical. They identified 45 articles as full articles for inclusion in this study. Findings suggest that although respiratory and immune systems are mainly affected by COVID-19, it does not spare other systems like cardiovascular, urinary, gastrointestinal tract, reproductive system, nervous system and integumentary system, especially in elderly cases and those with comorbidity. This review would aid clinicians and researchers to attain insight concerning the tissue pathology, which can allow better planning of the management and avoiding future risks.
