Histologic and immunohistochemical differences between hereditary and sporadic diffuse gastric carcinoma
Human Pathology Jan 12, 2018
Lee HE, et al. - Researchers pursued a determination of the histopathologic features unique in the case of hereditary diffuse gastric cancer (HDGC) by comparing with its sporadic counterpart (SDGC). The presence of 3 distinct tumor cell populations was proposed in HDGC: Well-differentiated large cells, well-differentiated small cells, and poorly-differentiated small cells. It was also observed that the latter group with aberrant p16 expression could depict a more aggressive phenotype. The absence of CDX2 in HDGC was indicative of the possible development along a carcinogenetic pathway different from that of SDGC.
