Ko CH, et al. - Given that, osteoporosis is one of the consequences of aging, and it remains underdiagnosed and undertreated, experts conducted a nationwide survey in Taiwan to present the characteristics and prevalence of osteoporosis in elderly. Aging, lower body weight, and a history of fracture are the associated factors for male osteoporosis. They noted an inverse association of the BMDs at FN and hip (total), but not L1-4 with age. In order to evaluate osteoporosis for elderly male subjects, BMD at the proximal femur is recommended to be the preferred site.
