High irisin levels are associated with better glycemic control and bone health in children with type 1 diabetes
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Apr 25, 2018
Faienza MF, et al. - Researchers assessed irisin levels in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) children and their correlation with bone metabolism and glycaemic control. Study included a total of 96 T1DM subjects (12.2 ± 4 years), 56 on multiple daily injections (MDI), 40 on continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII), and 34 controls. Using QUS, evaluation of bone mineral density (BMD) was carried out. T1DM children had high irisin levels. In those who were on CSII for TDM1, the highest irisin levels were found to be associated with a better glycaemic control and bone health.
