Hemoglobin levels and low bone mineral density in non-anemic older adults: Secondary analysis of the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
Experimental Gerontology Sep 06, 2019
Kim HS, et al. - In this cross-sectional study, researchers examined participants (n = 3,626; aged ≥ 60 years) from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in order to determine the link between hemoglobin levels and bone mineral density (BMD) in non-anemic healthy adults. By means of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, BMD of the lumbar spine and both femurs was determined. Low BMD was defined as T-score for BMD < −1.0 SD. Findings revealed an inverse link of hemoglobin levels with low BMD in lumbar spine among non-anemic adults.
