Help-seeking behaviours, opportunistic treatment and psychological implications of adolescent acne: Cross-sectional studies in schools and hospital outpatient departments in the UK
BMJ Open Sep 27, 2017
Desai KP, et al. - In this study, researchers examine the self-reported prevalence, severity and psychological sequelae of acne, together with evaluating help-seeking behaviour and its barriers, in a separate school and hospital samples. They investigate the opportunistic treatment by paediatricians. The current study showed that the acne is common and has negative psychological implications, correlating with severity. Young people often forego looking for help and hospital clinicians rarely address acne opportunistically. Further work is needed to explore how to decrease barriers to help-seeking for acne.
