Heart failure and fracture risk: A meta-analysis
Osteoporosis International Oct 24, 2019
Ge G, et al. - In this meta-analysis, researchers evaluated data from studies that examined the relationship between heart failure and fracture risk and carried out a comparison with controls in order to determine whether heart failure is related to a progressed risk of fractures. They noted a significantly greater risk of any fracture in individuals with heart failure (n = 53,038) vs controls (n = 126,727). For hip and humerus fractures, findings were the same; however, they were not the same for vertebral and forearm fractures. Overall, individuals with heart failure had a greater risk of fractures, particularly hip and humerus fractures, and thus may need to pay more attention to their bone health.
