Health service use and quality of life recovery 12‐months following major osteoporotic fracture: Latent class analyses of the international costs and utilities related to osteoporotic fractures study (ICUROS)
Journal of Bone and Mineral Research Sep 25, 2020
Talevski J, Sanders KM, Busija L, et al. - The present study was conducted to distinguish specific combinations of health service use associated with recovery of health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) 12‐months post‐major osteoporotic fracture (MOF). Researchers recruited a total of 4,126 adults aged ≥ 50 years with a MOF (1,657 hip, 1,354 distal forearms, 681 vertebrae, 434 humerus) in the International Costs and Utilities Related to Osteoporotic fractures Study – a multinational observational study (Australia, Austria, Estonia, France, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Russia, Spain, UK). The EuroQoL questionnaire (EQ‐5D‐3L) was applied to assess HRQoL at pre‐fracture and 12‐months post‐fracture. They obtained health service use data via participant interviews and medical record reviews including in‐hospital care; outpatient care; community services and medication use. The results of this study demonstrate that understanding country‐specific health care service pathways that affect the greater recovery of HRQoL, especially services that are uncommon in some countries and routine in others, could improve post‐fracture care on a global scale.
