Health-related quality of life, pain, and fatigue in young adults with cerebral palsy
Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology Jan 26, 2020
Jacobson DNO, et al. - In this cross-sectional study, researchers reported health-related quality of life (HRQoL), pain, fatigue, and other health variables in young adults with cerebral palsy (CP), and examined relationships with the Gross Motor Function Classification System – Expanded and Revised (GMFCS-ER) and physical activity. The sample consisted of 61 young adults at a mean age of 21 years 2 months (standard deviation 8mo, range 20–22y) with CP, from a geographically defined area. According to results, self-reported mental health was, inversely, lower in GMFCS-ER levels I to II vs GMFCS-ER levels III to V. In young adults with CP, general HRQoL was similar to population norms. It is also important to address pain and fatigue in highly motor functioning individuals. A possible protective factor against fatigue could be physical activity.
