Hand grip strength and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in Korea: An analysis in KNHANES VI
International Journal of COPD Aug 14, 2017
Lee SH, et al. – A population–based cross–sectional study was performed to assess the relationship between chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and hand grip strength (HGS), using Korean population data. Researchers reported that COPD subjects did not have lower HGS than non–COPD subjects. HGS did not correlate with lung function. However, the HGS of male COPD subjects was positively correlated with EuroQol Five-Dimension Questionnaire (EQ5D) utility score index, an indicator of the quality of life. They suggested that HGS might be helpful as an additional method to the evaluation of the quality of life in male COPD patients.
