Growth curves for children with X-linked hypophosphatemia

Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Sep 04, 2020

Mao M, Carpenter TO, Whyte MP, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to provide linear growth curves for children with X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH), a rare disorder featuring renal phosphate wasting and is considered the most common heritable form of rickets and osteomalacia, from birth to early adolescence. Data were pooled from 4 prior studies of XLH to construct growth curves. In total, 228 patients (132 girls, 96 boys) with 2,381 height measurements were involved. Almost all individuals (> 99%) reported prior management with supplementation therapy. According to findings, children with XLH demonstrate reduced height gain by 1 year of age and remain below population norms thereafter. Such data will help assess therapeutic interventions on linear growth for pediatric XLH.
