Genome-wide association and functional studies identify a role for matrix Gla protein in osteoarthritis of the hand
Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Sep 02, 2017
den Hollander W, et al. – The researchers performed this analysis in order to identify novel genes associated with hand osteoarthritis (OA) as well as to investigate the underlying mechanism. They explained that the lower expression of matrix Gla protein (MGP) was responsible for the association between MGP variant and increased risk for hand OA. This probably increases the possibility of hand OA by decreased inhibition of cartilage calcification.
